Presenters are needed for "Discovering Careers-2009," the Santa Clarita Valley's hands-on career exploration program planned for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 at College of the Canyons.
The expo is sponsored by the Alliance in conjunction with the Hart School District, COC. Boston Scientific, the Chancellor's Office, California Community Colleges, and KHTS radio. It will feature interactive presentations and demonstrations by local businesses and service organizations for students from 5 to 20 years old.
More than 20 businesses have currently applied to present activities, and the expo is able to accommodate up to 60 presenters.
The Alliance staff will help presenters develop a hands-on activity-anything from a demonstration to a short talk to an activity which allows students to create something relevant to that career or profession.
Presenter applications can be obtained by calling (661) 753-5740, extension 776 or 230. Information is also available at www.hartdistrict.org/discover. A presenter donation of $20 is asked to help support the program, but it not a requirement to participate.
Discovering Careers-2009 will be free of charge to all participants. Last year, the program drew more than 2000 children, teens and their parents for the first such event.
