West Ranch High senior lacrosse midfielder J.K. Torres will be playing for NCAA Division III school Aurora University in Illinois upon graduation this spring.

“The biggest reason I chose Aurora was because they offered the criminal justice major I wanted,” said Torres, who along with his father John helped establish the Wildcats youth league in 2009. The league now has seven teams.

West Ranch competed at the high school level for the first time ever in 2013, and will be joined by Valencia as the only other Santa Clarita Valley school with an official CIF-sanctioned lacrosse squad in 2014.

“It’s nice because it shows that even at a small school with no reputation you can start something that brings kids together,” added Torres, who also played on West Ranch’s football team.

Torres will join an Aurora team that posted a 16-4 record and made the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III playoffs last season.

He was recruited after his performances with the West Coast Starz Regional club team last season.
