Players in the city of Santa Clarita's Youth Basketball Program competed in the winter league championships at Hart High School on March 14.

When the dust settled on the court, the Clippers (Major I), Nets (Major II), Mystics (Major/Senior Girls) and Warriors (Senior Boys) came out winners.

A few games came down to the wire, with the Major/Senior Girls and Senior Boys division champions determined by baskets made in the final seconds of each game. More than 1,500 local youth participated in the city league for children ages 5 to 15, which emphasizes sportsmanship, skill development and fun in a positive, controlled recreational environment. The city offers the league in the summer as well as winter.

"It is so important to provide Santa Clarita youth with opportunities to participate in quality recreational activities," Councilwoman Laurie Ender said. "The league competitions at Hart High School showcased the hard work and skill local kids put not only into the playoffs, but also the entire season."
