SANTA CLARITA - The murder case of a Newhall man charged in the stabbing death of another Newhall man in 2012 is set to go before a jury in February, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday.

Cesar Navarro, 21, who was ordered in July to stand trial on one count of first-degree murder in the death of Franco Olea, is scheduled to appear in San Fernando Superior Court for a jury trial Feb. 10.

In September, Navarro entered a plea of not guilty to the felony charge filed against him.

Investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported Olea stepped outside his home on Dec. 2, 2012, in response to an apparent auto burglary and wound up struggling with another man on his driveway before being stabbed.

He died at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. His death was the only Santa Clarita Valley murder in 2012.

Navarro, who was arrested Jan. 23, remains in custody at the Pitchess Detention Center’s East Facility.
