More than half a dozen people, including pastors of a Valencia church, have reached out to help a tiny Val Verde church after it was looted and trashed last weekend.

Burglars looted the New Life Apostolic Church in Jesus Christ, stealing its sound system and a modest offering, ripping up Bibles in the search for valuables, some time during the weekend, Pastor Ishmael Estrada told The Signal on Tuesday.

“This is a tiny community church so when they lose, they lose big,” said Rudy Perez, one of a handful of concerned readers who contacted The Signal wanting to know how to get in touch to help the church.

“I was totally touched by this story,” he said. “You gotta help out your brothers and sisters.”

Others contacting The Signal expressed the same sentiment.

“One of our pastors saw the story published in the paper and decided we should help,” said Kim Sagardia of the NorthPark Community Church.

She said she and Pastor Eric Johns were motivated to act. “We met and said, ‘Let’s see what we can do to help,’” Sagardia said. “If they need Bibles or whatever, let’s help.”

The mess burglars left on the tiny church’s floor included ripped Bibles and overturned chairs. Items were strewn around the base of Estrada’s pulpit, and burglars ripped the protective screens from the base of the alter in an apparent attempt to steal speakers secured there.

One of those who called The Signal wanting to help was Kate Smiley.

“I heard on the news that a small church was recently vandalized and all their musical equipment was stolen,” she wrote in an email. “ I would like to donate to the Church.”

Anyone wishing to help out can contact Estrada’s adult daughter, Sandra Avila, at 661-312-3394.

The church is located at 28930 Morningside Drive in Val Verde, 91384.
