A figurine of baby Jesus that was taken away from a manger at Westfield Valencia Town Center earlier this week was found Wednesday afternoon inside the mall, according to a spokeswoman.

“We found him on the property and we are grateful and delighted he is back,” Stacie House, a spokeswoman for the mall, said Wednesday.

Mall security discovered that the figure was missing Monday from the nativity display in the mall’s Patios area.

The nativity scene is donated by Grace Baptist Church.

David Hegg, senior pastor at Grace Baptist Church, said Wednesday he heard the figurine was discovered and that he thinks it was likely removed from the display as a joke.

“Kids do stuff, people do things, they do it for a joke and then they think better of it,” Hegg said, adding he doesn’t think removal of the figurine was a malicious act.

This was not the first time baby Jesus has been taken from the nativity scene. The figure also went missing on Christmas Eve in 2009 but was found eight days later in the middle of the night in the Patios area.

Hegg said he doesn’t know if there’s a way to secure the figurine from being taken.

“But there’s a lot more to Christmas than just a doll in a manger,” he added.
