Rosedell Elementary teacher Kevin McGroary has received a $500 grant from the Target Field Trip Grants Program toward a field trip for his sixth-grade class. The grant covers transportation, supplies and equipment, resource materials and entry fees. Target's program aims to provide teachers with field trip funds to replace funds lost due to budget cuts.

McGroary was selected for the grant based on his application that stated the relevance of the field trip to the school curriculum and its students. He used the grant to take 30 students to the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History on March 19 to observe ancient Latin American and earth science exhibits.

Any K-12 teacher can submit an application for the 2009-2010 school year at, where visitors can also find a list of this year's winners.
