Children who died this year will be remembered and honored during a mass candle-lighting event hosted by the Santa Clarita Chapter of The Compassionate Friends on Sunday in Canyon Country Park.

The local chapter is participating in one of many global events during the 17th annual Worldwide Candle Lighting, during which families light candles for one hour in memory of dead children.

Each lighting is followed by another one in the next time zone, creating a 24-hour wave of light, according to a news release.

Locally, people can attend a special service at 6:30 p.m. at Canyon Country Park, followed by live performers, music, poetry recitals and a slide show. Candles will be lit at 7 p.m.
