Roads in a mostly industrial area of Santa Clarita were closed shortly after 7 p.m. today so a private memorial could be held at the location where “Fast and Furious” actor Paul Walker and his friend, local businessman Roger Rodas, were killed Saturday.

Sheriff’s deputies closed off the roads about 7 p.m. and began using barricades to direct people out of the area around 7:15 p.m. A deputy at the scene told The Signal that Universal Studios had obtained a permit to clear the area so family and members of the movie franchise could hold a private memorial there.

Closed would be most of the loop of Kelly Johnson Parkway, Hercules Street and Constellation Road at Alta Vista Avenue, one sheriff’s official said. The street would reopen at 10 p.m., officials said.

Santa Clarita city officials could not be reached for comment about the permit and road closure.

Crowds have flocked to the crash site at Kelly Johnson Parkway and Hercules Street since late Saturday. Walker and Rodas were killed when a car Rodas was driving crashed into two trees and a light standard in a single-vehicle incident that sheriff’s investigators say involved speeding.
