Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, R-Santa Clarita, holds a press conference at 9:00 a.m on Friday, March 27 to announce the introduction of Assembly Bill 150, which if passed would provide a sales tax holiday for consumers who purchase products that carry the Energy Star designation.

Also on hand will be representatives from local utilities to discuss the importance of energy efficiency in the residential sector, as well as rebate programs for consumers who purchase energy-efficient appliances.

AB 150 encourages the use of energy-efficient products by providing an annual state sales tax "holiday" for consumers who purchase qualifying Energy Star products on the Saturday after Earth Day, beginning in 2010.

By purchasing and using Energy Star products, households can reduce their energy use and save up to 30 percent, or $450 annually, on their utility bills.
