SANTA CLARITA - A stolen car found at the bottom of a 200-foot ravine in the Angeles National Forest off Sand Canyon Road will be left where it is, a California Highway Patrol sergeant said Tuesday after tow truck drivers convinced the CHP it was too difficult to retrieve.

CHP officers responded to reports of the car being spotted on Monday, CHP Sgt. Michelle Esposito said. After continuing efforts were made Tuesday to pull the car from the ravine, CHP officers decided to leave it where it is, she said. The car was believed to have been there for years.

“We’re going to mark it with an ‘X’ and leave it there,” she said Tuesday.
“I don’t know if it’s because of the undergrowth or whatever, but it’s too difficult to recover.”

“Apparently, this was a dumped stolen car,” said John Wagner, spokesman for the U.S. Forest Service.
