LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say a man who had been firing a rifle and then pointed the weapon at officers has been shot and killed by Los Angeles police.

Sgt. Jerretta Sandoz tells City News Service the man had been firing shots late Monday outside his house in a residential area of Granada Hills.

Sandoz says when officers arrived at the single-family home just before midnight he confronted them with the rifle. The officers opened fire, killing him.

The man, apparently in his sixties, was not immediately identified.

No officers were hurt.

Neighbors tell KNX Radio the man lived alone at the house and had past confrontations with police.
