On Saturday, March 14, Myrna R. Condie of Santa Clarita was named the 2009 California Mother of the Year by the California Association of American Mothers, Inc.This year the national convention will be held April 22-25 in Portland, Ore. where Condie will compete for the 2009 National Mother of the Year title.

Condie was recognized for her service as a mother. She has one daughter, Heather Lake (Bryan) also of Santa Clarita, and also has extensive involvement with foster care. Her love for her three grandchildren was also mentioned. And she was praised for her community service to others including young people.

Condie currently serves on the Santa Clarita Valley Boys & Girls Club Foundation board of directors as well as the College of the Canyons Foundation board. She is the founder of the Santa Clarita Valley Festival of Trees and has served as co-chair for the College of the Canyons Silver Spur Celebration for the past three years.

Condie is a graduate of California State University at Northridge with a degree in Clothing & Textiles and Fashion Design. She has taught at the American College in Westwood, Santa Monica Community College and the Los Angeles Unified School District . She has also worked with several youth groups including the Boys & Girls Club.

Condie was born with congenital heart defects, which has required multiple heartsurgeries over the years. Nevertheless, it was noted she has never let this slow her down.

She is married to Gary Condie who is a prominent CPA in the SCV.
