There was no sadness or regret in Golden Valley sophomore golfer Elisa Pierre’s voice whatsoever on Wednesday.

Pierre finished tied for eighth overall out of 54 golfers in the CIF State Individual Girls Golf Championship at Quail Lodge Golf Course in Carmel.

“I guess it’s because coming this far, it’s a little further than I thought I’d come,” Pierre said. “This is a great reward. I’m really looking to improve. I’ve worked so hard this past year.”

Pierre shot a 3-over 74 on Wednesday.

Andrea Lee of Mira Costa High won the title with a 4-under 67.

The next best score was a 71, shared by five golfers.

“It was a lot of fun. I felt a new kind of pressure (Wednesday),” Pierre said. “It was interesting. I loved it. I’ve never been in that position. There were a lot of college coaches watching. To be in that much pressure and to be able to cope with it, it made it interesting.”

Pierre started her day on the 10th hole and was even through five.

However, she double-bogeyed holes 15 and 18 to put her at 4-over.

She birdied holes 4 and 8, and bogeyed 6.

Pierre followed her stellar freshman season, in which she finished second overall individually, by finishing first her sophomore year.

That gave her the Foothill League Most valuable Player prize, which also went with Golden Valley’s first-ever team Foothill title.

Pierre became the second Santa Clarita Valley girls golfer all time to reach the state championship.
Saugus’ Melanie De Leon finished 16th with an 81 in the CIF State Championship Nov. 25, 2003.
