All the photos of the smiling couple on display Tuesday at Real Life Church — riding dirt bikes, swimming, tossing a baseball and riding horses — reminded hundreds of friends that the funeral service was a celebration of life.

More than 500 people filed past two flower-covered caskets inside the church for a service in memory of 19-year-old Nicole Lynn Hoffman of Valencia and Robert Corona Jr., 25, of Castaic, killed two weeks ago in a traffic collision.

Before the service actually began, attendees stopped in front of poster boards displaying photos of the couple pursuing a variety of outdoor activities.

“It was always a lot of fun,” said Daniela Lagunas, who said she shared in many of the couple’s family outings, remembering Hoffman as an extremely caring person.

The boyfriend-girlfriend duo suffered fatal injuries in a crash Nov. 8. They died at separate times the following weekend at Antelope Valley Hospital.

Following a slide show at Tuesday’s service, Hoffman’s Uncle Scott Reph told attendees: “The families wanted a celebration of life, so thank you to those here helping us celebrate the life of Nicole and Robert.”

“It’s been, truly, a community coming together to show love,” Reph said. “It’s been incredible.”

Reph specifically thanked Robert Corona for trying to save the life of his niece during the series of incidents that led to the fatal crash while the couple was headed to California City for a family dirt-bike outing.

A CHP report on the collision said Hoffman was driving a Honda Civic with Corona in the passenger’s seat when the vehicle was hit. Corona got out on the pasenger’s side and was rushing around to the driver’s side to check on Hoffman when the vehicle and Corona were both hit by a Ford Explorer, causing the fatal injuries.

“I want to thank Robert for giving his life in trying to save the life of Nicole,” Reph said.
