Max Homa has moved on to the final stage of golf’s Qualifying School.

Homa, a Valencia graduate, finished 1-over and tied for 16th place at the second stage of Q-School on Friday at Deerwood Golf Club in Kingwood, Texas.

That puts Homa among the top 20 players plus ties in the field of 79 that advanced to the final stage of Q-School, which will take place from Dec. 12-17 in La Quinta.

If Homa does well enough at that event, he’ll earn a spot on the Tour for the 2014 season, which will put him on one of the sport’s most prestigious professional tours.

This comes just weeks after Homa made his pro debut in October.

From there, he competed at the first stage of Q-School in Pinehurst, N.C., where he qualified with medalist honors in late October.

In this week’s four-round event in Kingwood, Homa recorded scores of 69, 75, 71 in his first three rounds before capping with a 74 on Friday on the par-72 course.

Had he finished one stroke worse, he wouldn’t have qualified.

The medalist at the event was Sung Kang, who finished at 10-under.

Homa will be one of roughly 156 players to participate at the Q-School finals next month, which spans six rounds.

The top 45 finishers, including ties, will earn Tour exemptions for at least part of the 2014 season.
