The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office will await a toxicology report before determining the cause of death for an 18-year-old Canyon High School graduate found dead in his home, a spokesman said Friday.

The body of Jose Cruz, who graduated from Canyon in 2008, was found Thursday in a residence in the 29000 block of Marilyn Street in Canyon Country.

"We had a lot of kids grieving," Canyon High Principal Bob Messina said Friday. "(Cruz) left behind a lot of underclassmen who cared for him."

The news of Cruz's death arrived as Canyon High School students were already grieving the sudden death of freshman Nicholas Wayne Pruett, who died after jogging in a Granada Hills park Tuesday.

Grief counselors were on campus Friday to try to help the students get through the dual tragedies, Messina said.

"These were both fun-loving guys," he said.

On Monday, a group of Canyon High School students will walk from the school to First Christian Church in Canyon Country at 3 p.m. for a memorial service for Pruett at 4 p.m.

Funeral arrangements for Cruz were not announced by Friday afternoon.

It will take eight to 12 weeks to determine the cause of Cruz's death, said Lt. Joe Bale of the Corner's Office.
