16-year-old injured in Calif. camper explosion

A travel trailer that was destroyed by an explosion injured a 16-year-old early Thursday morning. The trailer was gutted left a biy with possible life-threatening injuries.

 

ELK GROVE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a 16-year-old boy was critically injured when a camper in front of a Northern California home exploded following a propane leak.

Police and fire crews in the Sacramento County city of Elk Grove responded to a report of an explosion around 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

Elk Grove police spokesman Christopher Trim said they arrived to find the trailer gutted and the boy severely burned.

Fire officials say the camper had a five-gallon propane tank, and there was a leak somewhere in the system.It was not clear, however, what ignited the propane.

Cosumnes Fire Department Deputy Chief John Michelini said the boy was inside the camper, where he stayed from time to time. His relatives lived at an adjacent home, which was also damaged. Michelini said there was no evidence of illegal activity.
