2 arrested in alleged illegal speed contest

SANTA CLARITA - Two 18-year-old local men were arrested on suspicion of engaging in an illegal speed contest, a misdemeanor, court and sheriff’s documents released today show.

The Castaic and Valencia residents, who work as a cashier and bagger respectively, are each charged with a section of the California Vehicle Code stating, “A person shall not engage in a motor vehicle speed contest on a highway.”

The section defines a motor vehicle speed contest as: a motor vehicle race against another vehicle, a clock, or other timing device.”

Both suspects have their bail set at $10,000.

The location of the alleged speed contest was not stated in the documents.
