Winning baseball games in the Foothill league has become increasingly more important.

With every swing of the pendulum another team is tagged the one to beat.

West Ranch defeated Golden Valley 16-3 on the Wildcats' home turf on Friday.

The Wildcats started out its season with one goal in mind - reach the postseason.

West Ranch (4-6, 2-3) entered its game against Golden Valley (2-9, 0-5) with a lot to lose.

After a tough loss to Valencia Wednesday, West Ranch knew it had to win in order to remain competitors in the league
"We know that these wins are precious," said West Ranch head coach Casey Burrill. "We came into this game very motivated."

The Wildcats dominated in the first three innings scoring 13 runs.

Trevor Fredrickson had a good day at the plate for the Wildcats going 3-for-3.

"Trevor was the spark plug for our team today," Burrill said.

Also big for West Ranch was Jake Bernards, who had four RBIs.

However, the Grizzlies did not go down without a fight.

Golden Valley scored all three of its runs in the sixth inning, led by Chris Smith.

Smith scored a run off a Nick Rhoades single, followed by Ross Garrett scoring off a ground out.

But the lead proved insurmountable.

West Ranch will face Saugus next week while Golden Valley visits Hart.
