The Hart Indians girls’ tennis team did what it had to to keep its postseason aspirations alive on Thursday, defeating Villa Park 11-7 in a hard fought contest to advance to the third round of the CIF-Southern Section Division II playoffs.

“The draw is playing out like I hoped it would,” said Hart head coach Chris Mansfield, who was surprised to see Villa Park after the Spartans upset Ayala in the first round earlier this week. “Everybody’s playing great tennis, there’s nothing to shore up or anything. Singles has always been able to come through and at this point there’s not much you can do but believe in the talent and see what happens.”

Villa Park No. 1 Rachel Kim was able to capture two sets against Hart’s seemingly impenetrable singles lineup on Thursday, but the Spartans were not deep enough to make noise outside of that,

Indians sophomore Natalia Munoz swept 6-0, 6-1, 6-0, and teammates Jackie Resler and Proyfon Lohaphaisan added another four sets to give the Indians seven crucial games.

In doubles, seniors Lauren Dam and Bailey Sindle clinched the win with a sweep.

Next up for Hart is a road showdown against a St. Margaret’s team that has won its two previous meetings against the Indians.
