All Santa Clarita Christian football can do now is hope.

The Cardinals defeated Southlands Christian 69-0 on Thursday in Diamond Bar in SCCS’s regular-season finale.

SCCS finishes the season at 5-5 overall and 2-2 in third place in the San Joaquin League.

Last year, the Cardinals finished 7-3 overall and were excluded from the CIF-Southern Section Northeast League playoffs.

SCCS head coach Garrick Moss says he thinks his team has a shot of making this year’s playoffs.

“There will be six at-large bids (in the division playoffs). We feel our strength of schedule and we feel we can play with anyone (in the division),” Moss said.

“We just want a shot,” he continued.

If SCCS did go out, it went out with a bang.

The Cardinals were up 41-0 at halftime and in the second and third quarters outscored Southlands (0-8) 56-0.

Junior quarterback Jonathan Saavedra was 11-of-16 for 349 yards and five touchdown passes.

Jon Luke Wilson had two catches for 97 yards and two touchdowns, while Cameron Lewis had two catches for 73 yards and 93-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Kameron Carroll had eight carries for 107 yards and a touchdown.
