SANTA CLARITA - A man was injured and taken to the hospital this morning after a trash truck northbound on Interstate 5 left the freeway and went down an embankment in Valencia, officials said.

The crash occurred shortly before 7:45 a.m. just south of the Valencia Boulevard off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.

“We got the call as an overturned trash truck on the side of the freeway,” a Fire Department spokesman said. “One patient was taken to the hospital.”

CHP officers responding to the crash reported seeing several cars pull over near the crash site in efforts to help the driver.

Traffic in the right-most lane was stopped as firefighters worked to free the man, fire and law enforcement officials said.
