A memorial service will be held Monday for Nicholas Wayne Pruett, a Canyon High School freshman who died suddenly Tuesday while jogging in a park.

"Nick just ran everywhere," said his grandmother, Audrey Plasky. "Even when he didn't have to run, he ran. He'd slide through the marble entryway with his socks, like Tom Cruise (in the 1983 film ‘Risky Business')."

Pruett, 14, was jogging in a park in Granada Hills with Plasky, who was walking the family dogs, when he collapsed. Family members rushed him to a hospital but he died about 4:50 p.m.

A group of Canyon High School students will walk from the school to First Christian Church in Canyon Country at 3 p.m. Monday. A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m.

Pruett liked to skateboard, go to the movies, listen to music, draw and work on cars.

"I remember his delicate side; he would notice birds and trees and squirrels," Plasky said. "Most boys wouldn't even think of those things. He was the nurturer of his family."

"Our friends are so supportive," his sister Breanna Pruett said. "People I haven't talked to in years are calling me and telling me they support me."

Nick Pruett's organs have been donated, as arranged by his father, Carl Pruett.

Nick Pruett is survived by his sister, Breanna; his father, Carl Pruett; his grandparents, Michael and Natalia Kuretich, Harry and Evelyn Pruett, Audrey and Robert Plasky; and his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
