Addressing that Newhall Roundabout

I would like to address the Newhall Roundabout. I am a 15 year old who resides in Valencia. I have lived here all my life. My mom has lived here her entire life and her parents still reside in the house she grew up in. My roots are pretty deep in this town.

I love the rich history of Santa Clarita and all it has to offer. My grandma is Native American and is the founder of the Hart of the West Pow Wow held annually at Hart Park. This year was the 20th annual.

You can imagine my disappointment when I passed by Hart Park with my mom a few months ago and saw that the roundabout was underway and access to Hart Park was anything by easy. I ask you this...why in a city that values family would a city allow this to happen? Why was the Pow Wow not taken into consideration during the planning process? I realize that not everything can work around the Pow Wow, but this is a huge event — as big as the 4th of July parade and every bit as much a family affair.

I just think that the city could have worked around the Pow Wow or at the very least helped the cause by allowing the park to post signs on Railroad Ave. regarding the event. As I have for the past 15 years, I attended the Pow Wow both days and to say the crowds were poor is an understatement. Although I heard no complaints from anyone, I just wish the city could have been a little more sensitive to this event. Afterall, we do live in Awesometown!
