Winter is gone and the temporary homeless shelter is closed, but there are still homeless people in Santa Clarita.

As the valley enters the time between active shelter seasons, the local Unitarian church will host a discussion Sunday of how to best serve the local homeless population.

From noon to 1 p.m. Tim Davis, executive director of the Santa Clarita Community Development Corp., will explain how the group will address the needs of the valley's homeless population through the coming year and will discuss ways local citizens can help with the group's efforts.

The Santa Clarita Valley Emergency Winter is open from December through mid-March, giving the area's homeless residents a place to eat a hot meal, wash up, sleep, and receive help in trying to find work and housing.

The Unitarian Universalists of the Santa Clarita Valley will hold its Fifth Sunday Forum following church services at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center, located at 22900 Market Street in Newhall. The forum is open to the public.
