Canyon and Valencia ended up sharing the 2009 Foothill League title.

It turns out the race for league player of the year was a dead heat, too.

Canyon’s Milan Cabrera and Valencia’s Alyssa Triana were named co-Foothill League Players of the Year in recognition of their teams’ success.

Cabrera, a senior defender and captain, anchored the back line for the Cowboys, who reached the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division II playoffs.

Triana, a junior midfielder, orchestrated a Viking attack that scored more than three goals per game and also reached the CIF-Southern Section Division II playoffs.

Both Canyon and Valencia featured three players on the first team. The Cowboys were represented by senior defender Shannon Seidenglanz, senior midfielder/defender Jessica Luevano and junior striker Elvia Contreras, while the Vikings landed senior goalkeeper Christianne Cordero, senior striker Alyson Drake and freshman defender Tiffany Geer.

CIF-Southern Section Division II champion and Foothill League third-place finisher Saugus had three players make the first team. Senior strikers Erin Ortega and Shannon Suarez and junior midfielder Jamie Molacek were integral parts of Saugus’ offense, which kept pressure on opponents and capitalized on scoring chances during the postseason run.

Hart finished fourth in the Foothill League and earned two first-team spots. Senior midfielder and co-captain Allison Carivau and junior sweeper Megan Indermill helped the Indians reach the CIF-Southern Section Division II playoffs.

West Ranch had one player make the first team, sophomore Amanda Dailor.

Each school in the league featured two selections on the second team. Golden Valley’s freshman duo of Sasha Malone and Rachel Hoeft were so honored and give the Grizzlies a bright outlook for upcoming seasons.

Canyon senior defender Kathryn Hanson and sophomore midfielder Malaya Cabrera also made the second team, while Valencia junior defender Madison White and sophomore forward Kristin Bos made the second team as well.

Saugus was represented on the second team by junior defender Shasta Fisher and junior defender Emily Relles, and Hart junior defender and sophomore striker Katie Trevino also made the second team. Trevino led the Foothill League in scoring with 19 goals in the regular season.

West Ranch senior Camille Kirkpatrick capped her career with a second-team selection, while Kylee MacArthur made the second team after her freshman campaign.

One player from each school earned an honorable mention, including Canyon junior goalkeeper Alex Krall, Valencia senior striker Kelly Deckers, Saugus junior midfielder Brittanie Sakajian, Hart senior sweeper Aimee Page, West Ranch junior Biana Lomeli and Golden Valley freshman Lauren Bermudez.
