A woman and a toddler were removed from a damaged SUV and taken to the hospital today following a traffic collision in Valencia, according to sheriff’s deputies and fire officials.

About 12:45 p.m., deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to reports of a crash at the intersection of McBean Parkway and Decoro Drive.

Responding deputies found two damaged vehicles in the intersection — a gray Nissan Quest with damage to the driver’s door and a white Ford Expedition with front-end damage.

The air bags in both vehicles had been deployed, but the driver of the Ford was uninjured.

Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived about 1 p.m., according to a Fire Department spokeswoman, and removed a woman from the Nissan, then placed her on a stretcher.

They then removed a girl who appeared unharmed, clutching a white plush dog and eating french fries while occupying a car seat behind the driver. They kept the girl in the car seat and placed her in the ambulance with the woman.

Paramedics took the couple to Holy Cross Medical Center, the Fire Department spokesman said.
