At the end of three busy weeks of golf, Valencia graduate Max Homa was ready for a rest.

But before he caught his connecting flight back home to Valencia, he had a lot to be happy about after finishing as the medalist in the first stage of Tour Qualifying School at Pinewild Country Club in Pinehurst, N.C.

After four rounds, Homa finished at 11-under 277 with rounds of 68, 66, 73 and a 70 to cap it off on Friday.

The win easily moves him into the second of the three-stage Q-School, which takes place next month. In reality, all Homa needed to do this week was finish in the top 32 of the 77-player field.

“To get off to a good start in a qualifying round like this is important,” Homa said Friday.

He began play in North Carolina just two days after finishing up at Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, a PGA Tour tournament in Las Vegas.

There, he finished tied for 30th. And that came a week after he ended up tied for ninth at his first career PGA Tour event, the Open, in Northern California.

“I’m just excited about where my game is at, just that I know I can stand up to the best of the best on the PGA tour, it makes me more confident going into Q-School,” Homa said of the two pro tournaments.

All qualifiers will be placed in one of six different locations for the second stage set to begin on Nov. 12. Homa said he'll find out where he plays next week.
