In a report released this week by Healthgrades, a national independent source that reviews hospitals and physicians for quality, all five Providence Health & Services, Southern California, medical centers were recognized for “excellent clinical outcomes.”

The Catholic not-for-profit medical centers included Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, the St. Joseph Medical center in Burbank, Tarzana Medical Center, Little Company of Mary Medical Center in San Pedro, and Little Company of Mary medical center in Torrance.

The medical centers received a total of 99 awards in a variety of specialties including critical care, maternity, pulmonology, cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology, gynecology, prostate removal and bariatric weight loss surgery, according to a spokesperson with Providence.

The healthcare centers also received multiple top ranking, five-star ratings at all of its centers in various surgical procedures and specialty healthcare treatments.

Healthgrades measures quality based on outcomes and complication rates, said Lanny Eason, M.D., chief medical officer of Providence Health & Services, Southern California.

“We at Providence are working together to create healthier communities, and our physicians and clinicians across our five hospitals have taken this to heart, ensuring clinical excellence for each and every patient,” Eason said.

For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 40 million Medicare-patient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide, assessing hospital performance relative to each of 31 common conditions and procedures.

Healthgrades also allows consumers to review hospitals and physicians for quality.
