First of all, my condolence to the Kellerman family on the loss of William “Bill” Kellerman, the owner of the Newhall Lumber Inc.

After reading the article in The Signal on Sunday, I felt regretful that I didn’t know Mr. Kellerman personally.

I felt a kinship toward Mr. Kellerman because he reminded me of my grandfather, who also ”modeled his business transactions with a handshake, a smile and integrity.”

That type of business transaction, unfortunately, is a thing of the past. The independent businesses have been gobbled up by the big boys, and they will be sorely missed.

The “big box stores” have no personality, and they give you the feeling of going into a “big box” with no help in sight.

Kudos to Newhall Lumber for standing the test of time in competing with the big box stores.
