A local sheriff’s deputy responding to a burglary call was injured in a single-vehicle crash in front of Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia.

The deputy, whose identity has not been disclosed, suffered minor injuries in the crash, said Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Dubin.

“The deputy is at home resting and is sore,” he said.

At 11:40 p.m. Sunday, deputies and Los Angeles County firefighters responded to reports of a sheriff’s cruiser involved in a crash on McBean Parkway at Orchard Village Road.

“The deputy was responding code 3 with lights and siren to a ‘burglary now’ call,” Dubin said. “The caller stated someone was attempting to break into a residence.

“The deputy lost control of his patrol car and struck several trees in the center median,” Dubin said.

“He suffered a small contusion to the back of his head and complained of pain in his left leg. He stated he was wearing his seatbelt. The patrol vehicle sustained major damage,” he said.

The cause of the collision was still under investigation Tuesday. No other parties were involved.

Paramedics took one patient to the hospital just before midnight Sunday, said a Fire Department spokeswoman.

One man who contacted The Signal said he saw a sheriff’s cruiser with front-end damage in the middle of the intersection with median trees damaged, as well.
