LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a mysterious odor at a Southern California Edison call center prompted hundreds to evacuate and 26 people were treated after complaining of illness.

A strong odor was reported at around noon Monday at the Long Beach call center. Edison says about 300 people were evacuated.

Six workers were taken to hospitals but their conditions weren't critical. Twenty others were treated at the scene after complaining of dizziness, nausea and headaches.

The building was checked by a hazardous materials team and declared safe about three hours later but the cause of the odor wasn't found.

Edison says employees were sent home for the day and customer service calls were routed to other centers.
