Castaic chamber installs board

The Castaic Area Town Council and Chamber of Commerce held their annual awards ceremony Saturday honoring members of the business sector and community at large.

This year's Castaic Chamber of Commerce installed the following board members:
Latisha Stewart Smith, president; Scott Moon, first vice president; Judith Cassis, second vice president; Ray Graeber, treasurer; Shelly Cazan, secretary; and directors Jack Crawford, John Musella, Patrick Raach and Brian Higgins.

Incoming Castaic Area Town Council members are: Robert Kelly, Scott Wardle, Lori Bennett, Flo Lawrence and Rick Hood. This year's officers are President Steve Teeman, Vice President Robert Kelly, Secretary Vanessa Brookman and Treasurer Scott Wardle.

Award recipients were as follows: Man of the Year, Flo Lawrence; Woman of the Year, Lori Bennett; Business of the Year, Elite Dance Studios; Ambassador of the Year, Jack Crawford (UPS Store); Teacher of the Year, Lynda Ashley; and Volunteer of the Year, John Kunak. The 2008 Community Service Award was given to Brenda Cambra. Emmy Award-winning television news reporter Rick Chambers emceed the event.

Several dignitaries attended the event, including Bob Haueter, deputy chief of staff for Congressman Howard P. "Buck" McKeon and Rosalind Wayman, senior field deputy for Supervisor Michael Antonovich, among others.

Eli Canty, one of the founding members of the Castaic Area Town Council, was also present. At the age of 98, Canty is still going strong in the community.
