A motorcycle rider injured in a traffic collision Sunday morning prompted California Highway Patrol officers to issue and staff advisory regarding thousands of Love Ride bikers travelling through the Santa Clarita Valley.

The hurt motorcyclist was taken by paramedics to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries after a single-vehicle crash about 9:30 a.m. in the northboundlanes of Interstate 5 near Highway 14, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

“We got the call as an MC down,” the spokesman said.

The crash prompted a “dual response,” he added, by both county firefighters and those with the Los Angeles City Fire Department.

Shortly before 9:30 a.m. Sunday, as thousands of bikers travelled the interstate from Glendale to the 30th Annual Love Ride festival at Castaic Lake, one motorcyclist was injured in a solo vehicle crash, the CHP reported.

At 10:20 a.m., CHP officers advised their fellow officers to be aware that the Love Ride trek was underway.

It was not confirmed whether or not the injured rider was on his way to the Love Ride festival.

“We want bikers to always be aware of the traffic and adjust their speed accordingly,” CHP Sgt. Michelle Esposito told The Signal Sunday.

The crash blocked the freeway’s slow lane for 20 minutes while emergency crews treated the victim and cleaned up the wreckage.
