A broken gas main forced the Los Angeles County Fire Department to shut down Placerita Canyon Road between Sierra Highway and Choke Cherry Lane today, and may force the evacuation of 10 homes.

Firefighters from Fire Station 104 are on the scene at 20910 Placerita Canyon Road, near the intersection of Sierra Highway, where it appears a four-inch natural gas pipe broke, Inspector Paul Hartwell said.

Residents living west of the intersection of Placerita Canyon Road and Sierra Highway were told to remain in their homes until further notice, Hartwell said.

If needed the residents will be evacuated, he said.

The road was shut down at 5 p.m. and will remain closed until 7 p.m., he said.

There are no reported injuries.
