SANTA CLARITA - A woman was cut in the face during a robbery attempt in Newhall late Tuesday, sparking a manhunt for two suspects believed responsible for that and two other robberies, according to fire and sheriff’s officials.

The woman, believed to be in her 50s, reportedly suffered an injury to the side of her face close to her ear and was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, officials said.

One other attempted robbery and a robbery in which property was stolen also occurred late Tuesday in Newhall, Sheriff’s Department investigators said Wednesday. The three crimes were believed to be related.

At 10:26 p.m. Tuesday, paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the 24000 block of La Glorita Circle, near Wiley Canyon Road in Newhall, to reports a person had been stabbed, Fire Department Inspector Keith Mora said.

Unconfirmed reports from residents who live in the area said the female victim was attacked in her garage while unloading her car. The woman’s identity and her condition were not available Wednesday.

“A couple of the robberies were attempts,” Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Sgt. Dean Currie said. “This incident was an attempt robbery.”

Detectives with both the sheriff’s Robbery and Assault team and with the COBRA team were looking for two suspects Wednesday, said Currie. The COBRA team specializes in juvenile and gang-related crimes.

Descriptions of the suspects were not made public as of Wednesday afternoon.

Tuesday’s incidents are the latest in a series of robberies reported in the area of Wiley Canyon Road and Lyons Avenue.

On Sept. 6 at 10:40 p.m., two masked suspects robbed a gas station at Lyons and Atwood Boulevard — about 500 yards from Tuesday’s attack, according to sheriff’s investigators.

In that robbery, suspects ran south on Atwood to a waiting dark-colored vehicle, they said.

Two months earlier, deputies responded to a similar robbery at the Vons store on Lyons — located between the gas station that was robbed last month and the location of Tuesday’s attempted robbery and attack.

At Vons, suspects used force on the store’s loss prevention officers after stealing merchandise from the store, according to deputies.
