Joe Toomey, senior utility with the Santa Clarita Water Division company, slides a water pipe from one side of Robin Crest Court in Canyon Country as his coworkers wait for it to come out the other hole Monday afternoon.

The Santa Clarita Water Division solved a mystery Monday - the mystery of the leaking water on Robin Crest Court in Canyon Country.

The Water Division fixed a leak that was spewing water into the street for nearly two weeks, retail manager Mauricio Guardado said.

The mystery began 10 days ago when Robin Crest Court resident Kathleen Bauer noticed water flowing into the street.

"When I woke in the morning, the street was wet," she said.

Bauer wasn't content to watch the mystery water run down the drain.

"We are in a drought and this is a waste," she said.

Bauer called the Water Division, but the source of the leak baffled water crews.

"It appeared to be runoff," Guardado said.

Heavy water use by residents can run off into the street and appear to be a leak, he said.

The water pressure and the size of the leak varied day-to-day, which convinced water crews the source was runoff, Guardado said.

But the mystery water continued to leave Robin Crest Court wet each day.

Water crews returned to do site inspections to see which home the runoff was coming from, Guardado said. The follow-up inspections convinced the Water Division the leak was coming from an underground source.

"The leak is from a one-inch service line that connects to a home," Guardado said.

The Water Division doesn't know how much water leaked from the pipe.

"The leak is before the water reaches the meter so there is no way to measure it," he said.

Water crews dug up the pipe Monday afternoon and were expected to fix the leak before the end of the workday, Guardado said.
