B&B Manufacturing, a world-class provider of manufacturing solutions to the aerospace, military, semiconductor and automotive racing industries, announced its participation in the Santa Clarita Valley Search and Rescue Trail Challenge.

The Search and Rescue Team is a local volunteer team that works under the direction of the SCV Sheriff's Station.

Over the 12-week challenge, teams will have to complete a minimum of 12 local hikes. The challenge kicked off at Ed Davis Park in Towsley Canyon on Sunday and ends May 31 with a barbecue and awards ceremony.

B&B has a team of 25 people who are signed up and committed to the event. The group meets weekly to discuss their upcoming hikes, special gear and safety precautions.

"We encourage other companies, teams, families and individuals to join in on this worthy cause and have some fun getting in shape while exploring the Santa Clarita Valley hiking trails," said Art Casillas, B&B's HR training and safety coordinator.

B&B, which employs 200 people in Valencia, has a number of hiking enthusiasts on their team. A few years ago they started hiking the local mountains, which later lead to hiking Mt. Whitney and, more recently, Mt. Shasta.

Late last year, company Vice President Jeff Lage joined the Santa Clarita Search and Rescue Team and is currently going through the recruitment process.

In January, Lage challenged fellow employees to join in on hiking the local mountains on Fridays after work.

Over the past few months the group size has continued to grow and hikes have become a part of the weekly routine.

"We understand there are other companies in the challenge as well and we have some friends at the city who claim they will be giving us a run for our money. I guess we'll have to wait and see about that," Lage said.

B & B Manufacturing is a provider of machined components, sub-assemblies and contract manufacturing services, serving the aerospace, semiconductor, automotive racing and general aviation markets.
