Putting aside the fact that the stimulus package is already so full of pork and earmark spending as to be dubbed a "spending bill" rather than one devoted to stimulus, Santa Clarita has already taken enough federal dollars for its citizens.
I am no expert on the specifics of Santa Clarita's financial situation, but I do know that many communities in California and around the country are in much greater need of these bailout funds than our city is. Millions of dollars were delivered to Santa Clarita by our representation in Washington, D.C., in the good times.
Now, as federal deficits bloom and taxes go up to pay for it all, it is time to take Santa Clarita off the government dole and become a poster child for how healthy and frugal cities can get through these tough times without the help of other people's money.
