The Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation received a Gold Excellence in Economic Development Award for its 2012 project in the category of Magazines, the non-profit announced Friday.

The award was in the category for communities with populations of 200,000 to 500,000 from the International Economic Development Council. The award was presented Oct. 8.

The awards honor the organizations and individuals who are dedicated to making a positive change in their communities, said IEDC chair, Paul Krutko.

The EDC developed 48-page, full-color publication, the “Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Guide,” showcasing the regional attributes and competitive advantages of residing, working and recreating in the SCV.

The publication featured a center gatefold inclusive of a map indicating new developments on the horizon for Santa Clarita as well as information showcasing Santa Clarita’s lifestyle and pro-business appeal.

In each of the past three years, the EDC has published an industry-specific magazine focusing on one of the core cluster industries in Santa Clarita. The 2012 magazine focused on the region’s biomedical industry.

Previously it published a guide on the aerospace and defense industry. This month it published a guide on the media and entertainment industry.

“The Excellence in Economic Development Awards recognize Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation as being one of the leading organizations in the industry for innovation, creativity and successful strategies,” Krutko said.

The EDC used creative solutions and inventive ideas, and offered other regions a wonderful example to learn and benefit from, he said.

“The award represents an acknowledgment and appreciation for Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation’s dedication to continuous growth within itself, as well as improving the industry overall,” Krutko said.
