SANTA CLARITA - A Castaic man faces six felony charges after allegedly plotting to kidnap his child from a house in Canyon Country, an official with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office said Friday.

David Maryniak, 36, has been charged with two counts of attempted kidnapping, two counts of criminal threats, one count of stalking and one count of vandalism causing more than $400 in damage, all felonies, according to District Attorney’s spokeswoman Jean Guccione.

Maryniak was arrested Wednesday evening in Canyon Country following a brief manhunt after he allegedly attempted to kidnap his child from his estranged wife and family, said Deputy Josh Dubin with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

That manhunt began Tuesday when deputies responded to the 19500 block of Delight Street in Canyon Country and a male suspect, identified as Maryniak, fled the scene and eluded capture.

Maryniak was later arrested without incident at a Walgreens store on Soledad Canyon and Whites Canyon roads.
