The West Ranch Wildcats continued their unbeaten start to Foothill League play with a 3-1 victory over Saugus on Thursday at Saugus High.

Alexis Clewis’ 16 kills led the Wildcats (6-3 overall, 3-0 Foothill League) to the win by game scores of 25-23, 14-25, 25-20, 25-20.

West Ranch head coach Gerrit Maxwell still sees room for improvement.

“We’ve played very inconsistently,” he said. “The nice thing is we’ve played well enough to get the ‘W.’”

In the match, Haylee Fricke compiled 23 assists and Brooke Garelick added 12 digs for West Ranch.

For Saugus, Canyon High transfer Robyn Underwood tallied 22 assists in her first match of the season after she completed the 30-day sitout period required by CIF rules.

Sam Nua added 6.5 blocks and 10 kills for the Centurions (11-12, 0-3).

Valencia 3, Canyon 0

Lindsey Knudsen finished with 11 kills and seven digs to lead Valencia to a sweep of Canyon by scores of 25-16, 25-14, 25-6 at Valencia High.

Makena Lautner chipped in seven kills and five aces for the Vikings, who improved to 11-3 overall and 3-0 in league play.

West Ranch and Valencia remain as the last two Foothill teams without a loss in league. The two face off on Oct. 16.

Canyon is now 2-14 and 1-2 in league.

Hart 3, Golden Valley 0

Hart took care of business with a sweep of Golden Valley by scores of 25-15, 25-9, 25-16.

Ashley Aponik led the Indians with seven kills and three blocks, while Brianne Beeman landed six kills.

Hart is now 11-8 overall, 2-1 in Foothill competition.

Golden Valley (1-7, 0-3) was led by Nereida Meza’s six kills.

League competition resumes for all teams on Tuesday.
