SANTA CLARITA - At least one person was injured and a portion of the road was shut down after a car flipped over on Valencia Boulevard near McBean Parkway earlier today.

The incident was first reported as a vehicle rollover around 9:27 a.m., according to Lt. Mark Hershey with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Palmdale resident Justin Gimbel was just down the street from the scene when he heard the sound of screeching tires.

“I heard a loud screech and then a crash,” he said. “I looked over and saw the car and saw smoke starting to come out of it so I ran over to see what was going on.”

While it is unclear how the incident occurred, the end result was a Chevrolet Aveo sedan flipping over and coming to rest on its hood in the left turn lanes on Valencia Boulevard in front of the Westfield Valencia Town Center.

Another vehicle, a Toyota Camry, had damage to its rear bumper and a flat tire at the scene.

One person from that car was strapped to a gurney and transported from the scene in an ambulance.

The incident blocked lanes on Valencia Boulevard for more than an hour, but Hershey said as of 11:05 a.m. that the roadway appears to be fully cleared and reopened.
