Pamela and Alan Ferdman

Pamela and Alan Ferdman, longtime residents of Canyon Country, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 17 with a dinner and family gathering at ship Hornblower in Marina Del Ray.

It was just a little more than a half century ago when Pamela Starr Taylor, a California native, and Alan Jerome Ferdman, a transplant from Brooklyn, NY, met at Johnny’s Drive-In on Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood.

It was love at first sight, and three months later, they were married.

Fifteen months after they tied the knot, their first son, Ernest, was born.

Locally involved, the Ferdmans found themselves spending more and more time in Canyon Country. House hunting led them to purchase a house in North Oaks, where they still live today.

In 1970, their second son, Scott, came into the world, rounding out the immediate family.

Today, with Al’s mother Jean, brother Bruce and uncle Paul, four generations of the Ferdman family reside in Santa Clarita.

With five grandchildren, the Ferdmans’ found there is nothing that compares to being surrounded by loving family members and experiencing the joy of seeing another generation mature.

Prior to his retirement in 2006, Alan was employed at Litton Guidance and Control for 40 years and JPL for six years.

Today, he spends much of his time as a community advocate and chair of the Canyon Country Advisory Committee.

Pamela is a registered nurse who worked full-time for Kaiser Permanente for 36 years. She retired in 1999 and has continued to work part-time, accumulating an impressive 50 years of service.

The Ferdmans have been blessed with a wonderful family and intend to stay right here in Santa Clarita to watch their family grow, the couple said.
