Explosives experts were called Monday to dispose of a grenade found in a Newhall house, a local sheriff’s lieutenant said.

“Someone was cleaning out a house and he found a grenade,” said Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The discovery was reported to deputies at 12:41 p.m. Monday from a house in the 19000 block of Avenue of the Oaks in Friendly Valley.

As a result, experts with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Arson/Explosives Detail were called in to recover the grenade, Bryski said.

The device did not explode and no one was hurt.
