Just get out alive

Regarding the Donald Robinson letter to the editor “Don’t glorify war in honoring veterans”: Some of us Vietnam veterans will not admit that the war was one big waste of time. Denial is a powerful thing.
So many young men died that it is difficult to say we had no business being there in the first place.
I served in the artillery, Central Highlands, at a place called LZ Uplift in support of ground troops in the field from August 1969 to August 1970.
Almost everyone got high or drunk the first chance they got ... and the general consensus at the time was not to rock the boat and get out alive.
No one wanted to be the last fool to die in Vietnam.
