Coroner’s investigators have identified the man whose body was found in Newhall Sunday morning as 26-year-old Travis Newman, according to coroner and sheriff’s officials.

A spokeswoman for Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identification shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday.
The cause of death is still pending, she said.

Shortly after 7:45 a.m. Sunday, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call from a woman reporting the discovery of a man’s body in the South Fork Trail creek wash, about 700 feet north of Wiley Canyon Road, west of Railroad Avenue, said Lt. Tom Bryski.

They found the body of a man, believed to be that of a transient, he said.

“He was apparently found by his girlfriend who was living with him at the time in the wash,” Bryski said.
The man’s death appears to be natural with no signs of foul play, said Detective Daniel Morris of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau.

No detective with the Homicide Bureau has been assigned to the case, he said.

“I don’t have any information on this individual other than the case is being handled by the coroner,” Morris said.
