Gunman at large after Castaic officer shooting

Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau are investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place early Saturday morning in Castaic, according to a news release from the department.

According to the release, the incident occurred at 5:15 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Templin Highway and Interstate 5 in Castaic.

The incident involved an off-duty police officer from the La Habra Police Department.

The incident apparently occurred after the police officer was involved in a traffic collision with another vehicle, according to media reports. That led to an altercation between the officer and another individual.

According to reports, the individual took the officer’s weapon and fired, wounding the officer.

The suspect then fled the scene and remains at large, according to reports. The officer’s wounds do not appear to be life-threatening.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Descriptions of the suspect and the vehicle he or she was driving have not been released.
