Construction is well in progress for the new Santa Clarita express car wash, Dapper Dan’s.

“We are looking for a late-November, mid-December open, if all stays on track,” said Ryan Kuhns, president of General Wash LLC and owner/operator of Dapper Dan’s.

The architectural design plan called for a “Tommy Bahama” design, Kuhns said last November when the deal was sealed. Equipment for the car alone cost more than $500,000, he said.

Also planned is a 175-foot-long conveyer to pull drivers, seated in their cars, through the wash, with the whole experience taking less than five minutes.

Safety personnel help guide the drivers into the tunnel. Commercial-grade vacuums will be on site as well.

Kuhns Company Inc. is the General Contractoron the project.

Just putting the deal together to build at the corner of Bouquet Canyon and Magic Mountain took three years, said John Cserkuti, senior vice president.

The delays, in part, were due to the fact that this wasn’t any ordinary corner to build on.

The city has easement rights over the corner property so that it can one day build a flyover bridge across the major streets to allow traffic to connect with and cross over the Whittaker-Bermite property.

Doing so will require “jug handles,” similar to how commuters access Soledad Canyon Road today from the Golden Valley Road flyover, said an official for the city.
